LimeBits: Make Website Shareable

limebits
LimeBits is a Web app that let users create powerful Website in an easy manner. Currently, it is still in Alpha, as this mean LimeBits will probably improve its functional specifications in favor of building a real screen to their end users. For users who sign-up to the site, they’re given a free 1GB space for data and Webpages. Since the purpose of LimeBits is to share the site, you’re allowed to mix a lot of cool features onto your site and share it to the online community of LimeBits.

The general thinking of LimeBits is that an user can get the whole copy of others’ sites since the site owners allowed to share their sites. While this sound like an illusion of agreement, but from the LimeBits demo, The Scrapbook, you can get a scoop of its concept. As stated in their blog, LimeBits mentioned, “LimeBits makes it possible for you to share your whole site - static pages and dynamic page-generating programs. If you share your site on LimeBits, I can get my own fully-functioning copy of your entire site, including dynamics.”

In technological setting, LimeBits aimed to be a new framework for Website creation, whether it is designed for novice beginners or Web developers. It makes use of JavaScript to run all the interactive yet dynamic programs, while take advantage of the WebDAV server for storage and retrieval. And thus, by using LimeBits, Website authors can drop a dynamic wiki, forum, database, office suite, or any other app into their Webpages, simply via static links, ultimately without the need for traditional server applications. The beauty is that they simply need to drop a Javascript code module into an HTML page via SCRIPT tags, and there is no requirement of programming language mastery skill. Meanwhile, you can read the road map of LimeBits by clicking here.

LimeBits is a project in the Lime Group, home to such companies as Lime Wire, Lime Brokerage, and Tower Research.

A new Canadian image search engine called TinEye has launched. It is a search engine project developed by Idée Inc. Though still in private beta, but is best understood by watching a demo video regarding its technology.

According to the demo video, TinEye has currently indexed more than 487 million images. Users who search the images through this search engine are not search by text, instead they need to upload an image or type an image’s URL link to the search bar. Mint: Manage Your Personal Finance

mint
Mint is a new free personal finance software that was released on the Web. Apparently, it is initially designed for the people reside in the US where an user need to enter the US zip code. Upon signing-up for Mint, you’ll able to use it as a single Web-based for all account types such as banks, credit cards, and credit unions. In order to download data to your Mint account, you’ll also need to enter the bank or credit card number. Currently, it supports more than 3,500 US financial institutions, such as Bank of America, Chase, Citibank Bank, HSBC, PayPal, just to name a few. Mint also supports investment account whereby you can fetch your personal data from your investment accounts such as Charles Schwab, E*Trade, Merrill Lynch, etc. More account types such as student loans and mortgages are on the way, probably available in June.

One notable feature Mint render is safety. If you’re connected to Mint and log into those of your bank accounts, Mint will automatically log you out if they find your account is being idle for 10 minutes, as all the data fetched from your bank accounts is sensitive data. The primary objective Mint offered to users is letting them handle their money in an efficient manner. How much money left in the accounts, how to do money budgeting yourself. An advanced alerting system is also being built into the system to alert users on issues such as unusual activity, low balances, unwanted fees and charges, and upcoming bills. In Mint’s About page, it seem that their next goal is to be a recommendation engine, if your balance in your bank is earning no interest, they might recommend a high interest rate savings account and you might earn some interest based on their suggestion.

Though Mint has many notable features pertaining to money management, it does not help an user to do money transferring or bill paying. You still need to do it by logging in to those accounts separately. What Mint can offer is their insights, by illustrating your money flowing in a pie chart or bar graph, you’ll be able to read your personal finance in this elegant way and help you to practice smarter in the future.

I’ll give Mint a real try in near future since my local bank is not in a list of Mint’s supported financial institutions. Stay tuned.

Adobe believes that the discontinue of its one-time flagship Website creation product, i.e. Adobe GoLive will better serve the needs of the Web designer market. Clearly, it will pave an even brighter future for Adobe Dreamweaver, which users can create HTML, ColdFusion, PHP, ASP VBScript, CSS, JavaScript, or Ruby (through plugin) with this software.

Devin Fernandez, GoLive’s Product Manager believed Dreamweaver is a better fit for today’s Web developer, he told Macworld, “Even after GoLive 9 came out people were drawn to Dreamweaver, especially around features and support for technology like AJAX and CSS Starter Points. Dreamweaver also supports dynamic content, while GoLive doesn’t.”

birdy
There is a new third-party Twitter application called Birdy. It is an Adobe AIR application (You need to download Adobe AIR) before you begin to install Birdy to your desktop computer. For micro blogging addicts, they need this application because it allowed them to post their latest updates or receiving any tweets. A bit of googling on the Web I’m not manage to find out who was responsible in developing this Birdy. But I think nothing is simpler than whenever you receive a tweet, Birdy will inform you with a sound.

Nevertheless, this Bird reminds me of the other two Twitter applications built by Adobe AIR, Feedalizr and Twhirl.
