HD Photo A New Standard?

HD Photo, formerly known as Window Media Photo, a photographic still image file format has caught the eyes of the public and since it is released by Microsoft in November last year, according to Microsoft’s blog, I observe that the interest in this “HD Photo” has skyrocketed. Microsoft has a big project on this product, they have planned to make the HD Photo as a new standard and as reported by CNET, Microsoft will submits this HD Photo image format to the relevant standard bodies. It is an attempt to establish a higher-replacement standard for the popular JPEG file.

HD Photo not the only project that Microsoft is pursuing in the digital photography area at this moment, there is another project that I found on the Microsoft Research Web site that called HD Viewer. Microsoft set up a research department, i.e. Interactive Visual Media Group that with the ambition to revolutionize the digital photography and video industry.

Will HD Photo becomes a new standard in the future? Many will question whether HD Photo stand for High-Definition Photo, but if HD Photo does create a “Wow” in our computing environment, then I believe HD technology will become synonymous with the high excitement.
