Yahoo! Minna Japan: A Digg Copycat?

I just came across an interesting site that called Yahoo! Minna, Yahoo!’s Japanese users’ powered contents. As the picture shown in the above, you will notice that every content/article/story is submitted and voted on by the Japanese Internet users, except the “avatar”, i.e. a being that shown beside the content/article/story submitted as a representation of a user in the Yahoo Minna environment is decided by Yahoo! Minna itself. In my observations, all the concepts and ideas is much the same as Digg, a famous user-driven content Web application. The only difference is the user cannot “bury” a content if he/she found a particular content/article/story is with bad links, off-topic content, or duplicate entries, as provided by Digg’s special built-in feature.

I wonder the idea of building Yahoo! Minna Japan is derived from Digg. Some may argued that idea is free, albeit it is always no right or wrong for a particular business situation, but I always believe in one thing: it’s not just the idea, if an organization want to succeed on the Web, they need to do something that interesting or special, not just simply copy the idea from somewhere else.
