Is Web 2.0 a cliche, or is it a waste of time in India, but Sequoia Capital want to prove that there’s still a lot of grow opportunities in India especially for the Web 2.0 sector. According to contentSutra, Minglebox, currently still in Alpha mode, has successfully raised $7 million from Sequoia Capital. As I visited the landing page of this site, they’re currently offered many tools such as music, search people, photos, blogs, join a group, or videos that one can share with each other. One of the special features of this site is where you can find all the colleges in Minglebox. They’re aimed in creating the campus communities that trying to emulate with the existing colleges’ Intranets. You’ll come across some of the renowned engineering and business schools such as IIM-Ahmedabad (as shown in the picture below), IIT, and etc. listed in Minglebox.
MInglebox has created a lot of information pages for the colleges in India. By introducing each of the colleges, they believed this will attracted a huge group of students and alumna or alumnus will sign-in as member and join the campus communities. “If you create the community, they will come” is the existing Web 2.0 motto. Moreover, by encourage the students to intern with them as the college moderators in order to build an authentic college community online besides being paid for it, I believe Minglebox eventually will make it in India.
