An open source software replacement for Microsoft Project, OpenProj has been launched by Projity today. This is a product that being well tested in over 400 customer sites and as told by the company, a complete software suite suitable for project managers or anyone that trying to manage any type of project. Moreover, it is available for free and also available on Windows, Linux, Mac or Unix platforms. Though I did not compare both project management softwares side-by-side, I believed OpenProj could established a terrific credibility as the most significant challenger to Microsoft Project. OpenProj builds upon Projity’s SaaS release, Project-ON-Demand. However, the main difference between OpenProj and Project-On-Demand is the delivery model whereas Project-On-Demand required a user’s monthly subscription. When they said it is a Microsoft Project’s replacement, surely OpenProj offers a seamless migration for Microsoft Project files which open easily, and features a simple user interface.

OpenProj is a latest project of Projity, a Silicon Valley and French company with offices in San Mateo, Paris and India.
