SkreemR: A Music Search Engine

Tags: , ,

SkreemR is a very simple music search engine that allowed users to find and download the songs, all songs currently are in mp3 format and full length, and I noticed that they increased the size of their search index almost in every month. Though I still can’t figure out what is their actual number of songs that they currently had been indexed in their search engine, but the songs, or services offered seem to really drive their Web traffic. For instance, I searched the songs from the artist “gorillaz” when I first used it months ago, they returned hardly anything, but now gorillaz’s songs grew to more than 200. The same goes to “Linkin Park’s songs,” the results returned was nearly 4,000 when compared to approx. 2,000 a few months ago. Though SkreemR’s interface looks pretty much the same as Google, but they want to build something more than a search engine. They’re building an Internet music community whereby the users can find the songs they like there, listen to the songs through the integrated Flash player, as well as provide links to Amazon where the users can buy the albums of the artists that they loved, or look for tickets in order to support the artists. Moreover, users are allowed to rate the quality of the songs by a feature called “AudioRank” developed by SkreemR.

Music sharing takes many forms, SkreemR insisted their service is legal since it searches for the links of those sites that offered mp3 songs and not host the mp3 songs. Presently, they also provide a Firefox search plugin and Songbird add-on for the users.
