Yahoo! Launches Tech Ticker

Last December, I wrote about a new idea that soon to be crystallized by Yahoo!, a streaming video finance site called Tech Ticker, this site has been launched today. A first glance to this site seeing a lot of heavyweight technology writers, run by Diane Galligan and her team included some of the writers that I like, Sarah Lacy, Aaron Task, Henry Blodget, and Andy Kessler. According to Sarah Lacy, this Tech Ticker is a site comprised of part live news cast, part video blog, and it will cover the technology industry from Wall Street and Silicon Valley. On this first day of its launch, there are four (4) video clips, I expect more videos to be added to this site as day goes by.

Apparently, this site demonstrated Yahoo!’s determination to be people’s favorite media conglomerate. As more and more people spending their time watching videos on the Web, Tech Ticker’s impact might be compelling yet promising. My first visit to the official Tech Ticker site was inspired by their latest video content, like this one, i.e. Jerry Yang Strikes Back; Here’s Microsoft’s Next Move (as embedded in the below) and this also, If Yahoo Only Had the Nerve – But Will It Be a Happy Ending? We can’t get a better Yahoo! reaction to the Microsoft’s bid from a finance video site created by Yahoo! On the other hand, I love the fact that the openness and completeness approach of Tech Ticker, where readers can post comment, find the related stock prices, and some videos are embeddable, with the option to vote on each video appeared on the site.

I think at this point this Tech Ticker is experimenting, but with all the heavyweight technology writers and reporters, Tech Ticker is uniquely takes advantage of changing its direction and swiftly suit to the consumers’ needs. Though building a technology video site is not a guaranteed success, however it would be silly to discount Tech Ticker’s potential as Yahoo! has long been investing in Yahoo! Finance.
