Google Sky Launches

This Wednesday Google has launched Sky in Google Earth. It is available as an added new feature in Google Earth, and offered the users to access to a hundred million stars and two hundred million galaxies with just a mouse click. The Google Sky feature can only found on the newest version of Google Earth, with the new Sky buton appeared on the toolbar at the top of the screen. Images from Google Sky came from six research institutions that include the Digital Sky Survey Consortium, the Palomar Observatory in California and the United Kingdom Astronomy Technology Centre. According to Google, Google Sky is now available in 13 languages.

You can watch a Google Sky’s introduction video clip, as embedded in below.

Google To Buy Panoramio

googlepanoramio

Google agrees to acquire Panoramio, it’s the heading of the latest Panoramio’s official blog. Besides, you can get the first-look into Panoramio by reading my another post on this geographical photo sharing site. Maybe we are now wondering on the shopping spree of Google in the recent months, but don’t forget how Panoramio work hand-in-hand with the Google products, Google Maps and Google Earth. Panoramio was doing the first-part job by enables digital photographers to geo-locate, store and organize their photographs, and users will view those photographs in Google Earth, as mentioned in the official Google blog.

At the same time, if users don’t want to pass their photos and personal information to Google, they would be given a chance to opt-out of the transfer of their personal information if Panoramio were acquired, as listed in the frequently asked questions section. Nevertheless, the above planned acquisition did not surprised the market as the momentum around this acquisition and partnership concept was far long created since the first day Panoramio launched in the market. On the other side, does this planned acquisition sounds that building products around Google and expect Google to buy into the intended visions is a good product strategy?

New Google Earth Free 4.0 Beta Launched

googleearth

Google Earth launched the latest free version of its product, as the title showed in the above. Google Earth is one of the products developed by Google and its major function is to combines satellite imagery, maps and the power of Google Search to put the world’s geographic information at one’s fingertips. You can download this free version by clicking here. I’m not going to talk more about this version here because I believe this product is about user experience, you need to download and install it on your PC, then you will experience it yourself. Another point is, it’s not easy to quantify a nebulous user experience especially when the product is a software that used in the point and zoom manner to anyplace on the planet that one want to explore.

But one thing I like about Google Earth is, Google had upgraded this line of products for once in approx. every three months. The last version of it launched in November 2006. And the Release 4 was previously launched in September 2006. They upgraded this product more often than the other line of products owned by Google especially the Google’s Blogger. It’s seems that they’ve been put emphasize on this product that may well be categorized under the label of enterprise software. I believe Google is focused on the marketing of Google Earth Enterprise Solutions that well served as a useful tool for the corporate throughout the world. Corporate world is their next target market. I also read a Google’s press release three days ago, i.e. Google announced that they launched the new features for the Google Search Appliance that give enterprise customers the ability to customize search results for their individual corporate environments.

Simply put, this is a great product. Kudos to Google Earth Engineering Team.
