Some Thoughts on Yahoo Mail Unlimited Storage

Tags: , ,

The past few days as I observed in the blogosphere, the hottest topic is surrounding the free electronic mail (email) product that we used daily. Yahoo! Mail will offer “unlimited” storage for all of their users starting in May this year in addition to the Yahoo! Mail API has been released to the developers, according to this article.

In terms of appearance and function, the offered of virtually invisible, “unlimited” storage space for the mailboxes by Yahoo! Mail, though make so much sense, but seems to be the relatively sarcasm titles for some of the economists. Unlimited storage is the newest promotion or strategy for Yahoo! Mail to generates a substantially critical mass of attraction that many email users would expected switch to their service. But we never know how many users will sign-up or make a switch until Yahoo! Unlimited Mail Storage launch in May. But, some attended the economics classes will know that scarcity is a basic concept as most of the products and services are scarce due to the limited availability of resources. Examples are clean water and gasoline. But now we came across a new terminology that called unlimited storage space, is it means scarcity is not restricted to technology and albeit that demand for storage space is high, and the supply-side is also abundance. And the notable is, Yahoo! is willingly to give up its short-term profit since scarcity could generate revenue and raise prices, example here is: sell more storage space by charging a user a subscription fee.

Bottom-line: Whatever the enhancements made by your email provider, you’ll know that its objective is to increase the loyalty and usage of their email system.
