I’ve came across a Mp3 search engine called MusicBiatch weeks ago. This MusicBiatch, touted itself as the world’s greatest music search engine didn’t seemed that great at all when they first launched on the Web. While I checked it out last week, it was offline, and I wanted to test the download link, the URL redirection service its used called Anym Link Anonymizer is also offline days ago.

MusicBiatch is a music search engine that aggregate results from around various online storing sites, majority of them are from Esnips. It purported that it has indexed more than 1 billion mp3 files in its search database. You can search the music search engine by Artist name, song, both Artist name and song as well as tags. Although MusicBiatch indexes mp3 files, they also indexes wma files from across the Web. For every song, you have the option of listening the song, embed it, or download the song to your desktop computer. Additionally, you also can add the MusicBiatch search plugin to the list of engines available in your browser’s search bar.

Meanwhile, MusicBiatch also compiled a music chart for its users and its existing business model is based on Google AdSense.

While I was actively looking for a good notification service to alert me on the kind of notifications that I’d like to receive, and this has led me to a site called notify.me. Now with this notify.me, I’ll get the options of receiving latest and real-time updates via mobile phone SMS, IM (Instant Messenger), and email, instead of having to constantly check the variety of sites for the notifications.

There are many types of notifications that notify.me offered to the users. This could be the latest technology news profiled on Slashdot.org, or world news reported on CNN.com, or any news feed you subscribed to, and based on your preference, you can enable notify.me to send the notifications to your IM, SMS, or email. Notify.me’s future plan is to enable its users to receive notifications via their desktop applications. As a result, a kind of client software that utilizing notify.me’s service will be offered to the users very soon.

To further empower users in using notify.me conveniently, users might need to add the notify.me bookmarklet to their Web browsers. For the users, however, this could be seen as an easy way that will help them to receive the notifications from the variety of services solely from the Web interface. For example, if you want to receive your real-time updates from your Twitter, Facebook, etc. just visit these sites, and click “Add to notify.me”, this will gives you the option of receiving the latest notifications of these sites (but make sure you get the right RSS feed format). Additionally, for the content notifications, you can filter it by any keyword you type into the filter box in order to add a filter. Along with this feature, you also can click any of the three (3) icons, i.e. IM, SMS, email and make it highlighted so that you’re able to receive notifications based on the highlighted communication channel.

Greenseng is not just a search engine. It describes itself in which it is different from any other ordinary search engine, but a search engine that goes green. Perhaps you’ll ask, “Do we really need a green search engine?” To promote a green lifestyle while we conducting search on the Web from a green point of view, we do really need a green search engine.

In fact, Greenseng was powered by CO2Stats, a company that helps in making Web sites green. CO2Stats was owned by Enernetics, Inc. and Enernetics was a company that co-founded by Alex Wissner-Gross and Timothy M. Sullivan in October 2007, a Y Combinator-funded technology firm. Its strongest appeal for the users is that it is a green certified site since it is powered by CO2Stats, and while users using Greenseng in searching on the Web, it will helps them to offset the carbon emissions through CO2Stats.

When you’re conducting search on Greenseng, the search results are powered by Google search, and at the bottom of every page, there’s a small and tiny Green Certified Site logo that will list the total CO2 emissions of your search.

Although Greenseng is only covered the Web search at this moment, I’m glad to see that it is a good solution for Internet users for minimizing the global warming effect when searching on the Web. As a result, when using it more and more, we’re ensure that we’ll live in a more greener lifestyle.

To share things online, there is a mini-blogging service called Posterous.

To share things online, there is a mini-blogging service called Posterous. It works quite similar to Tumblr, which means when you get started, you can get the option of post a note, a photo, URL link, video, MP3, or a file via email or mobile phone (U.S. only), and all of your entries will be shown in a beautiful and elegant manner.

On Posterous, each of the entries will be presented in three elements, i.e. heading, content, and comment. If you only post the photo, or video such as YouTube clip as the content of all of your entries, without any written text and heavily based on graphical use, you’ll find the consistency of your Posterous entries presented on the Web, and visitors would likely know your life-stream or your daily-life via the photo or video clip found on your Posterous. Other than the aforesaid features, all users’ Posterous will have its own customized URL, as the username you chosen will be served as the sub-domain of the customized URL on Posterous.

By exploring Posterous, there are many well written Posterous blogs and if you find one you like, you can subscribe to it by clicking the “Subscribe” link beneath the user’s Posterous. Also, if you like one of the entries, you can favorite it. However, from a commodity feature point of view, the most notable feature in Posterous probably is the post an entry by using email. After a user signing up to this Posterous, she can start to post things on her profile via email. Simply email Posterous at post@posterous.com using the email you signed up to the service and they’ll reply instantly with your new Posterous blog. I’m one of the Posterous users, and frankly, I like the prompt submission of my entry within a few seconds.

Other than that, Posterous recently also launched the “Autopost” feature. This Autopost allows you to post your entry to your Posterous, in the mean time also post it to some other platforms such as your registered Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Tumblr, Blogger, WordPress, TypePad, Movable Type, LiveJournal and Xanga account. Not to mention they also introduced the tagging feature, a feature will become a strong welcome addition that allows your Posterous to be discovered by Google or other blog search engines through all the tags you entered. Similarly to Tumblr, you also can use your custom domain name for your Posterous. However, as a personal users, you’ll only get the storage space of 1G for your account.

Overall, though I believed that Posterous would like to be the central hub for one in posting mini-blog, and it seemed like they’re dare to try new things, it will be interesting to see if they will succeed in the crowded mini-blogging sphere in the long run.

To know more about Posterous, it is co-founded by Sachin Agarwal and Garry Tan, both are graduates of Stanford University. Posterous also a Y Combinator-funded company.

Intodit is a new hosted wiki solution that allows you to create wiki page and share it with others. Since it is a free wiki service and offered without any charge, it is most suitably for individuals that want the wiki pages for information sharing purpose. On the front page of Intodit, you’ll find that only a handful of wiki groups available on the site, probably it is due to Intodit was a newly launched wiki solution, and not that many wiki passionate users are aware of it.

After you signing up for this Intodit, you can choose your subdomain as you wish to present it to the public. Also, you are allowed to choose one of the twelve (12) styles that based on a same type of template, i.e. the two-column template with left-hand sidebar. Since Intodit’s business model is based on Google AdSense, you’ll notice that there’s a small horizontal Google advertisement to be shown on every page of the Intodit’s wiki service. Along with the wiki page creation feature, you also can create a forum for the members, if any member of your wiki group want a page simply for the purpose of group discussions.

Like any other wiki solution on the Web, Intodit offered users the WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editing tool as well as the administrator’s privilege to lock certain wiki pages. For every page a user create, the page will be appeared as a menu in the menu structure located on the left-hand sidebar. For the wiki page, a user can start to edit it by using the WYSIWYG tool to start typing something, create an external link, insert photo, or even to the extent of adding a widget such as add a YouTube movie to the wiki page. Other features include a RSS feeds so that it will keep the members of a particular wiki group up for the latest news or changes, and a voting system on which users can rate a particular wiki group, i.e. from 1 to 5 stars.

At this moment, Intodit did not imposed the usage for the wiki group one has created. In other words, users can create as many pages, invite as many friends, or new members as possible to work in a collaborative environment for a wiki project. However, there are limitations in using this Intodit as users will not know the visitor statistics, as well as they’re not able to create the private wiki groups. Nevertheless, from the wiki format and template design, it is somewhat directed towards a hobby type of wiki groups, as I perceived.

Could a Web site be served as an instigator for change in human lives? When I visited this site called GoodGuide, it really interested me that building a site like this, in a revolutionary way in which information of each product can be the instrument for change for the better.

GoodGuide, was built on a vision of an Associate Professor at U.C. Berkeley namely Dara O’Rourke. It is a newly created community site for sharing product information that we used in everyday. Being funded by New Enterprise Associates and Draper Fisher Jurvetson, this site also a decade of academic research on global supply chains by researchers at MIT and U.C. Berkeley.

Perhaps we believed in that the products we used are commonly claimed as “all of the best, all-natural ingredients, no-tested in animals, etc” sorts of miraculous claims, but we really do not know much better knowledge about the ingredients in manufacturing the products that we used. Even most of the products sold on the shelves have a detailed labeling information, but unless all these products been analyzed and researched thoroughly through scientists or pharmacologists and presented to us in a layman terminology, all these ingredients seemed to be an unnecessary because of their unfamiliar ingredient names.

For this generation of health-conscious and environmental-conscious consumers, this GoodGuide is a grace. With this GoodGuide, I recalled I read an annual report of Eli Lilly, “The key to a total quality approach to healthcare is information. Whether it’s a scientists searching for a cure, a physician seeking a precise diagnose, a pharmacist filling a prescription, or a patient wondering about an illness, all depend on the intelligent use of information for successful outcomes.”

Browsing the GoodGuide site, you’ll come across the detailed information and ratings over 61,000 personal care and household chemical products, at the time of my writing. Each product listed on the site will have its own ratings measured by GoodGuide, in terms of health performance, environmental as well as social performance. Overall, the ratings created would became a comparison value when compare to similar products in the same category and then generate a result such as average, or above the average, etc.

Additionally, you also know what’s behind the ratings. It’s not bullshit or tell lies, and the ratings tells you how GoodGuide is evaluating the product as well as the manufacturer concerned based on its over 600 base criteria. Along with all these ratings rendered on each page of the products, you’ll also get to know the reminders, such as “things to consider,” analyzed ingredients of the product, any certification, manufacturer information and user reviews for that particular product. If you make up your mind to buy one of the products analyzed on the site, you can add it to your shopping list, or you can go to the product source page, mainly Amazon, and buy it there (GoodGuide presumably makes the affiliate revenue if you complete the buy).

GoodGuide, still in beta, but a startup that need to pay a close attention to, as I perceived. From what I observed, it is a site part of a larger efforts to raise awareness for a healthy and longevity lifestyle.

While a lot of Twitter users, i.e. Twitter-ers love to use Twitter, this micro-blogging platform is obviously lack of a sort of scheduler that allowed its users to schedule the tweets. Perhaps the Twitter-ers don’t need a scheduler, as opposed to the post scheduling feature that had long been established as a standard in most of the blogging platforms such as WordPress or TypePad, as Twitter’s main use is about posting tweets about “What are you doing?”, instead of “What will you do?”

However, there’s still a need in the Twitterverse for this kind of tweet scheduling feature and Twuffer has came into the limelight. Twuffer is a newly launched service that allow users to schedule their tweets. On the Twuffer site, Twitter users simply need to enter their credentials, and start to use the tweet scheduling tools found on the dashboard.

If you’re a Twitter user, you can type your tweet, and beneath the tweet type box, you can schedule the tweet for a time in the future by choosing the date, month and year as well as a specific time in a pull-down box in the “When to tweet” column. After you finish scheduled the tweet, simply click on the “set status!” button, and it’s all done. And all the scheduled tweets will be shown on the queued tweets page. Meanwhile, any queued tweet that sent will be appeared on sent tweets page. However, for the scheduled tweet, you either can delete it or re-type a new tweet if you find the schedule time was wrong, as you are not allowed to re-schedule the tweet for the second time.

Overall, Twuffer is especially useful for Twitter users who are frequently tweet announcements, reminders, or to create an illusion that they never sleep and working 24X7 on the Web.

Domainr is a new domain search engine that went live in last month. If you’re the type of person that always frustrated with the unavailability of the domain names you preferred, then you might find this Domainr very useful. Visit this domain search engine, you will find the simple interface for checking the availability of domain names other than the ubiquitous dot coms and dot nets, as most of these dot com and dot net domain names have been used or parked by others. As stated on the landing page, “There’s a whole world of domains out there—hundreds at the top-level and even more beyond—Domainr helps you explore them all.”

As you type in the search box, Domainr will search and then showing a list of domain names other than the top-level. For example, I searched for the “tag” domain name, it automatically showed that the “t.ag” domain name might be available at this moment with the highlighted green color. If the domain is taken, blue color will be appeared, while brown color indicates the domain’s availability is unknown. Click the Register button Domainr will link you to Go Daddy to purchase the domain and Domainr presumably makes the affiliate revenue if you complete the buy.

At first glance, the search results rendered might be seemed as all the childish names. However, in reality, it’s true that it’s really hard for us to find an unique domain name that isn’t registered by someone else nowadays, and it’s even harder for us to buy the short domain name that’s still available. Thus, Domainr will be the place for us to hunt the non-top-level domain names.

I’ve been tracking this Israeli startup called Picitup since its first inception on the Web in May this year. Picitup, dubbed as the world’s first content based image search engine, allows user to search for similar images based on her own uploaded image. This feature performs much the same as GazoPa, the Japan image search engine that I profiled in October last month, also an image search engine, and users can pick any image result shown and filter by color or shape in order for the similar images.

Other than the visual image search, Picitup also rolled out a search feature at the time of their launch which allowed users to compare them with famous celebrities that called celebrity matchup. This search feature allowed users like you to upload your own picture, select the desired gender, and let the search engine to offer suggestions that your face indeed match with the faces of some of the celebrities, as shown in the below example. My own take is that this feature obviously a desirable option for some that seeking additional confidence in their lives.

Since then, Picitup has continually developed new features in order to prove that they may be qualified to do an adequate job in order to coin themselves as the “Google for Images.” Most recently, they made a major enhancement to their core image search engine by rolling out “Visual Shop“. In short, Visual Shop is a Picitup’s search feature that allowed users not only to enter query for the products they want to buy, but also a search service that dedicated to make the buying and comparing experience more interesting. You can search through thousands of images after you typing in the text query. Click on any of the resulting thumbnail images and you’ll open a new window of the source page of that particular image. There are variety of options for you to confirm the product that you want to buy online. You can sort the products by pricing, set the number of image results Picitup will show you per page, filter by the product criteria, categorize product by pricing, online store name, gender and age, brands, and many more, all depend on the particular keyword when you searching for something on Picitup.

Additionally, Picitup provides a grid view or a list view in which you can see the products in a different viewing experience. For example, searching for long sleeve and show the resulting images in a grid view I can see the thumbnails of all the long sleeves without much of the product description associated with the item. In other words, only one line of description of the product can be found on the grid view, as shown in the below picture. If I find one of the long sleeves that I might be interested to buy it, I can also click on the “Similar Products” button beneath the product item to search more about the same type of products. As a result, I can compare the prices and colors of the product items with this filtering tool before I make up my mind to buy the product.

To know more about Picitup, it is co-founded by Alon Atsmon and Dan Atsmon. Both are graduates of Israeli’s elite Talpiot program. And Picitup’s research and development is based in Israel.

Fooooo is a very popular and widely used video search engine in Japan. It is available in eleven (11) languages; the default is Japanese, and its users are able to search 220 million video results from some ninety-four (94) video providers at the time of my writing, showing itself to be an ambitious video search engine. Apparently, with the capability of searching 220 million video results on the Web, a user can search whatever video she want from this site, including some big-name sources like YouTube, Dailymotion, MySpace, NicoVideo, Nifty, Ameba, FC2, Oricon, YouKu, Tudou, etc. As stated on the front page of Fooooo, it is considered to be the biggest video search engine on the Web now.

On the Fooooo site, although the design of the English site much like the default Japanese site, but potential users can’t sign-up to the site and become a member as the membership privilege can only be found on the Japanese site. However, these both Japanese and English sites, users will not find any advertisement on the landing page, not like the other nine (9) language sites, a horizontal Google AdSense advertisement can be found on the bottom of the page.

One of the best parts of Fooooo is that the default video size you watch via Fooooo is slightly bigger than YouTube, providing a convenience that has proven quite attractive for the video avid users. Also, users have the option to adjust the video size from original to medium and to large size.

Fooooo is a very powerful video search engine, not only you can find what you want to watch on it, you also can narrow your results to certain category, or filter it by channel or duration. According to the official blog of Fooooo, they’ve statistics showing that Internet Explorer is used by 86.86 percent of its users while 8.77 percent using Firefox, and the most popular search term in this September is “arashi”, as shown in the picture below.

Notifu, went live in October last month is a service that allowed users to send free group messages to people on their friends list. What’s good about the service is that it’s ad free and users are not required a special phone or download a specific software in order to use the service. The group messages can be sent through a simple Web interface and users can register to use it or even try it unregistered instead.

Developed by RealMetrics, Notifu is designed exclusively to facilitate group communications. You can send new message to a large group of people via email, phone, SMS, AOL IM, GTalk, ICQ, MSN, or Yahoo! IM through the Notifu interface. However, Notifu use is currently works best only to U.S. and Canada users particular in the mobile phone area. And for some mobile carriers outside of U.S. and Canada, Notifu is currently unable to deliver any SMS message. Although it is still tagged in beta status, Notifu is currently working on a new version, i.e. the OpenSocial version of Notifu scheduled to be released in November this month that allowed users to use it amongst the OpenSocial’s social networking sites such as Hi5, Friendster, MySpace, Orkut, etc.

Besides the send message functionality, Notifu also allowed users the freedom to collect response choice. There are two types of response choices. The first one is for the acknowledgement purpose, and the other one to allow the recipient to choose between the alternatives. In this scenario, the recipient simply need to type in the response choice resolves around the number as 1, 2 3 (if any) to the sender to confirm the choice.

Along with the features rendered as aforesaid in above, there is a limitation when you use Notifu. You can’t send the SMS message by using your own mobile phone number as the “From Address.” In the case of Notifu, it’s for the tracking purpose so any message sending out must use the Notifu’s own mobile number. However, for the users, there will be a concern that some potential users might not use Notifu just because of this.
